Statistical Significance

Definition

A determination that the observed result is unlikely to have occurred by chance alone, typically when the p-value is below a pre-specified threshold (usually 0.05).

Example

The difference in recovery time was statistically significant (p = 0.01), but the clinical significance of a 0.5-day difference is debatable.
